Now I used to own two Alix servers and was able to install Ubuntu and debian on them fine. But that was about 8 years ago. The APU I have mostly ran pfsense until I moved to a different router solution. The apu I have is the apu1d4.
I have tried so many ways of installing Ubuntu on an SD card. It's really a pain for me. Here are what I have tried.
I have tried both methods defined here on the Ubuntu section of OS Install - https://pcengines.ch/howto.htm#OS_installation. I can go through with the install. I setup grub, things look good but then upon rebooting the APU I just get that it's looking for the gfx instruction or it shows the Linux loading header but then stops. I even mounted the sd card after the fact and made sure everything was set for serial. still nothing.
I have tried Ubuntu versions back to 12.04 and get nothing from USB boot. ubuntu-server and even alternative.
I've tried debian and archlinux. debian I get nowhere and with arch I can get through the install but again upon reboot the system just doesn't find Grub.
One thing I noticed when setting up grub is it always says that the system is EFI but I am installing via mbr. I'm not sure why it would say this.
does anybody have a plan that just works? I really just need to get a debian based os on the thing.
